Wastewater Treatment Plant Pump Station Improvements

As a subconsultant to a partnered firm Perkins Engineering Consultants, Inc. (PECI), designed rehabilitation to the return sludge, waste sludge, and  thickener make-up water pumping systems at a 24 MGD plant serving six municipalities. Seven vertical end suction centrifugal pumps were replaced, suction and discharge headers were converted from welded steel to ductile iron pipe, and upgrades were made to the electrical and instrumentation systems including adjustable frequency drives for the new pumps. To minimize process downtime, provisions were put in place to allow for temporary pumping diversion – maintaining a minimum of 50% pumping capacity – while portions of the pump and piping system were rehabilitated.  The improvements utilized the available spacing inside the existing pump station and accommodated new equipment with minimal modifications.

Wastewater Lift Station to Serve Mixed Use Development

PECI designed a 35-foot deep duplex wastewater lift station to serve a mixed-use development in Rockwall, Texas. The station featured two 289-gpm submersible pumps, a generator with automatic transfer switch, and communication with the City’s SCADA system.

This lift station is just one of the 20+ lift stations PECI has designed. PECI has provided lift station rehabilitation and upgrade designs along with new lift station designs for capacities ranging from less than 50 gpm systems to 33 MGD systems for both private and public sector clients.

Booster Pump Station

PECI was retained by a regional water authority  for this water system improvement project consisting of the installation of a duplex water pumping station in the northern extremities of the distribution  system to replace an aging and inadequate existing pump station. The proposed duplex water pumping station is designed to pump 320 gpm (per pump) from a lower pressure plane to a higher pressure plane and will be in a secure concrete block building. Additional equipment includes piping, valves, lighting, fencing, site work, concrete driveway, electrical and controls. Prior to initiating design, PECI prepared a preliminary design report investigating alternatives to the proposed pump station including installing a transmission main from the lower pressure plane to an existing ground storage tank in the higher pressure plane and constructing improvements within the existing pump station located at the ground storage tank location.

Plant Water System Assistance

PECI was retained  to inventory a regional  Wastewater Treatment Plant's service water demands and usage. PECI prepared a technical memorandum with the findings and recommendations. PECI assisted with the design, pump procurement, and VFD addition.
